Safety Laboratory sets off on a journey to the Russian regions

10 March 2015

Large-scale interactive playground “Safety Laboratory” will become one of the distinctive events in the Safety Forecast social campaign initiated by the Russian Association of Motor Insurers and the State Road Traffic Inspectorate at the Ministry of Interior. Safety Laboratory will be set up in shopping malls of the regions engaged in the main events of the campaign. The first mobile Laboratory has already started its operation in the Crimea, many more to follow in the Krasnodar Territory, Bashkortostan, Mari El, Tyumen, Astrakhan, Chelyabinsk, Volgograd and Voronezh regions.

Interactive playground will attract the attention of both children and adults. Visitors will be able to examine the weather aspect carefully: take a closer look at it as if through a magnifying glass. It will provide answers to many questions: how do first drops of rain influence the road surface; how the fog is formed; why does sleet appear on the road; what snow really is.

Fun tests and fascinating experiments will help visitors to immerse themselves into the “macro world” and learn interesting facts about the weather influence on the road. Everyone will be able to learn something new from three exploratory stages: Road Grip, Visibility, Response Time. Each of those will consist of  driver’s and pedestrian’s areas, in order to develop correct patterns of behavior for all road users.

Children will be happy to attend a big play area with entertainers and two diverting characters – Lighter (“Svetik” in Russian, a lovable guy helping kids to learn something new about weather) and Tempest (“Nepogodka” in Russian, a girl full of mischief trying to get Lighter in trouble). Lighter and Tempest remind us of our favorite animated film heroes and have special knowledge on how to behave yourself in poor weather; with the help of their merry assistants they will carry out fun and educational classes and contests and will test the kids’ familiarity with acts of nature.

The central place of the interactive playground is taken by the Snow Globe – a dimensional installation in form of a giant transparent snow globe with a background of a winter landscape with road markings and snowfall effect. Every Safety Laboratory visitor of age will be able to take a picture inside and participate in the Share the Globe contest. Pictures of participants will be displayed on bezdtp.ru web-site, and the owner of the most popular picture will receive a tablet as a prize. The participants will be able to share their pictures via social networks and ask their friends to like the posts.

These and other activities will be available for visitors of the Laboratory and will help them to remember how to behave themselves on the road in poor weather. Interactive playgrounds in shopping malls will mark final events of the campaign in the regions-participants of Safety Forecast, during which campaign points on gearing down and keeping distance in poor weather will be voiced and the main activities in each region will be summarized.
