State Road Traffic Inspectorate and Road Safety Russia explained child transportation

Seminars on correct ways of child transportation have been held in three Russian regions. Parents and stuff at maternity hospitals and children hospitals in Smolensk, Kaluga, and Vladimir regions has been taught how to safely transport their child of 0 to 12 months of age. The project is realized within the Federal Target Program “Improving road safety in 2013-2020” jointly with the State Road Traffic Inspectorate at the Ministry of Interior and Road Safety Russia.

Many new parents don’t know all the details crucial to child transportation, a lot of them consider child restraint systems optional. Unfortunately, statistics proves otherwise: just in first eleven months of 2015, 62 children under 12 months old were killed on the Russian roads.

In order to dot the i's and cross the t's, the State Road Traffic Inspectorate, Road Safety Russia, and the Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology has developed seminars for new and soon-to-be mothers. The program of the seminars can be adapted for any region and any hospital.

The seminars are taught by the RSRussia chief instructor, Vladimir Bakharev. The program of the seminars covers such topics as hot to choose a car seat, how to install it properly, why car seats are safer than boosters or infant car seats, what are the dangers of leaving your child alone in the car, and many others.

The seminars were attended not only by future mothers, but also by local authority representatives, regional State Road Traffic Inspectorate officers, representatives from the Ministry of Education, maternity hospitals, pre-school institutions.

Even though the seminars are over, all guidance and educational materials are available in all regions-participants for future self-efficient seminars. Moreover, informational posters covering the topic of child transportation will be displayed in 120 medical institutions in Smolensk, Kaluga, and Vladimir regions.
